{"id":1590,"date":"2007-03-12T14:57:09","date_gmt":"2007-03-12T14:57:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/2007\/03\/12\/spc-art-gallery-to-host-opening-reception-for-continuum-on-march-21\/"},"modified":"2013-02-01T19:48:09","modified_gmt":"2013-02-01T19:48:09","slug":"spc-art-gallery-to-host-opening-reception-for-continuum-on-march-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saintpeters.edu\/news\/2007\/03\/12\/spc-art-gallery-to-host-opening-reception-for-continuum-on-march-21\/","title":{"rendered":"SPC Art Gallery to Host Opening Reception for Continuum on March 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Jersey City &#8211; The Saint Peter&#8217;s College Art Gallery will host an opening reception for the exhibit <em>Continuum<\/em> in celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the American Abstract Artists (AAA) on Wednesday, March 21 from 6 &#8211; 8 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp; The exhibition will run through Wednesday, April 25 in the basement of the O&#8217;Toole Library on campus.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The exhibition features the works of 70 members of the American Abstract Artists.&nbsp; The display includes paintings, books, sculpture and posters, among other objects.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>&quot;This show assembles pieces from some of the major artists in the abstract field,&quot; said Father Oscar Magnan, S.J., gallery director, professor in the College&#8217;s Fine Arts Department and AAA member.&nbsp;&nbsp; &quot;The exhibit provides a broad overview of the work produced by some of the leading members of the AAA.&quot;<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Since its inception in 1936, the AAA has played a pivotal role in the evolution of abstraction in American.&nbsp; American Abstract Artists is a democratic, artist-run organization, which exists to expand ideas and promote the exposure and understanding of abstract and non-objective art.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The Saint Peter&#8217;s Art gallery is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. &#8211; 4 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. &#8211; 9 p.m.&nbsp; For more information, please contact Father Oscar Magnan, S.J.,&nbsp;at 201.761.6483.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Saint Peter&#8217;s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter&#8217;s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City.
